where's your heart?

Hey, Reader!

One of my favorite English students - who's now a good friend - recently spent a week with us here in Albania.

When we first started our classes, he was curious about the idea of a location-independent lifestyle. He was already working remotely but hadn’t taken the leap into traveling just yet.

After hearing more about my adventures and getting a bit of advice, he finally took the plunge. Fast forward to today: he's on multi-month trips and has joined us not once, but twice, on this 3.5-month journey around Central Europe.

While he was here, I asked for his thoughts on my new long-term travel checklist. At one point, he stopped and said, "But I’m not really a digital nomad."

I laughed and told him, "Of course you are! You’re working remotely, traveling often, and even staying in new places for weeks or months at a time. That sounds like a digital nomad to me!"

But his reasoning stuck with me. He said, "My heart is still in Poland."

Maybe you have similar feelings.

Here’s the thing: your connection to your home country doesn’t disqualify you from being a digital nomad. In fact, I completely understand that feeling.

My heart will always be in the USA. I love going back regularly, seeing family, and revisiting my roots.

For some of us, the idea of "leaving home behind" just doesn’t fit. And that’s okay. Being a digital nomad isn’t about disconnecting from your home.

It’s about creating a lifestyle that lets you work and explore the world on your terms.

You can embrace travel and adventure without losing the part of you that feels deeply connected to where you’re from. Your heart can stay home while your feet take you anywhere.

What about you?

Do you feel like your heart belongs in one place or do you feel at home wherever you go? Hit reply and let me know - I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here’s to exploring without limits!

Cheers,
Rachel | gratefulgnomads.com

Hey, Reader! The number one question I get when I tell people about our lifestyle is, "How do you do it? How can you afford to travel and live like this?” I get where they're coming from. Most people only know travel as going on vacation, so they assume we must be rich to pull off this lifestyle. But here’s the thing: we’re not rich, and you don’t have to be to live a location-independent lifestyle. If you're curious about how to create this lifestyle for yourself, then I’ve got something...
